The American Legion Family


Membership in the American Legion Family is open to veterans and their families. Please see the descriptions below to determine your eligibility. You may download an application form by clicking on the links to the right. Please fill out the application and either mail it or bring it to the post with appropriate documentation of eligibility and the dues. If you have questions, please call the post and we will have an officer of the post contact you.

Eligibility Requirements for American Legion Membership

If you are currently on active duty, serving the United States honorably, anywhere in the world, or have served honorably during any of the following eligible war eras, we invite you to become a member of The American Legion.
• Aug. 2, 1990 to today (Gulf War / War On Terrorism)
• Dec. 20, 1989 to Jan. 31, 1990 (Panama)
• Aug. 24, 1982 to July 31, 1984 (Lebanon / Grenada)
• Feb. 28, 1961 to May 7, 1975 (Vietnam War)
• June 25, 1950 to Jan. 31, 1955 (Korean War)
• Dec. 7, 1941 to Dec. 31, 1946 (World War II)
• April 6, 1917 to Nov. 11, 1918 (World War I)

Dues are $30/year.

Eligibility Requirements for American Legion Auxiliary Membership

A woman who is eligible for membership in The American Legion is also eligible to join the American Legion Auxiliary.  The mother, wife, daughter, sister, grand-daughter, great-grand-daughter, or grandmother of members of The American Legion, and deceased veterans who served in the United States Armed Forces during the listed war eras.

• Aug. 24, 1982 to July 31, 1984 (Lebanon / Grenada)

Eligibility Requirements for Sons of the American Legion Membership

If you are the son or grandson of a veteran who is currently on active duty, serving the United States honorably, anywhere in the world, or has served honorably during any of the following eligible war eras, we invite you to become a member of The Sons of the American Legion.
• Aug. 2, 1990 to today (Gulf War / War On Terrorism)
• Dec. 20, 1989 to Jan. 31, 1990 (Panama)
• Aug. 24, 1982 to July 31, 1984 (Lebanon / Grenada)
• Feb. 28, 1961 to May 7, 1975 (Vietnam War)
• June 25, 1950 to Jan. 31, 1955 (Korean War)
• Dec. 7, 1941 to Dec. 31, 1946 (World War II)
• April 6, 1917 to Nov. 11, 1918 (World War I)

Dues are $30/year for member over 21 years old,
$10/year for Junior members who are under 21, and
$10/year for Sons who are also members of the American Legion.

Eligibility requirements for Legion Riders

• Members must hold membership in and be in good standing with The American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary or Sons of The American Legion.
• Members must be legally registered motorcycle owners or be the legally registered owner's spouse within the state of registration.
• Members may be a member of other Legion Post other than Post 290; however, you may only be a member of one Legion Rider Chapter.

Dues are $25/year for the first year and $10/year for subsequent years.

DD-214 Discharge Papers

Prospective members must provide a copy of DD-214 discharge papers for themselves or  for the relative through whom their eligibility is established.

The DD-214, officially "Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active-Duty," but generally referred to as a DD-214, is a document of the United States Department of Defense, issued upon a military service member's retirement, separation or discharge from active-duty military.
